Tenth grade English is also called World Literature. Students read no literature by American or British writers; instead, they learn about ancient world religions and their impact on literature. A lengthy unit covers the Holocaust of World War II and finishes with the viewing of Schindler's List, a movie for which students MUST return a permission slip to view due to its R rating (violence, brief nudity, language). Also, tenth grade English prepares students for the NC Writing Test which is typically administered in March. While the score on the test does NOT affect the student's grade in class, the score DOES impact McDowell County School System as North Carolina
